A motorist has shot and killed a man and wounded another, while they were allegedly trying to hijack him in Pinetown.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the man had been sitting in his car at the corner of Anderson and Josiah Gumede Road this morning when he was approached.
"It is alleged that the two suspects attempted to hijack him by threatening him with a knife. The victim allegedly pulled out his firearmand allegedly shot at one suspect and he died instantly," Zwane said.
Zwane says the second wounded suspect fled and is still on the run.
The incident took place just a few hours after a suspected robber was shot dead in a gun battle with police in Hillcrest.
Police say two patrolling officers stopped outside a shop last night, unaware that a robbery was in progress at a nearby tavern.
