More details of suspect killed in Shallcross hijacking emerge in court
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
More details have emerged in court about a second suspect in the Sadia Sukhraj case. The man died at the scene of the 9-year-old girl's murder in Shallcross earlier this year.
The details emerge as Sbonelo Mkhize, the only surviving suspect in the case, made another appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Sadia was killed after two men allegedly stole her father's car and drove off with her inside. A shooting broke out and the little girl was struck in the chest.
When Mkhize made his first appearance in the dock, it was on two counts of murder - Sadia's and 'an unidentified male'.
His case has now been transferred to the Durban High Court and, in the indictment, the State has identified Mkhize's alleged accomplice as Siyabonga Bulose.
There was also initially some confusion about Bulose's cause of death, with police saying there were no obvious injuries.
The State now says he suffered a "penetrating gunshot wound to the pelvis" and that he died immediately after the vehicle crashed and came to a stop.
Mkhize will come before a judge later this month.
Until then, he remains in custody.
