PICS: Week-long power cuts spark protests in Nkandla

Nkandla residents say they won't stop protesting until the electricity supply is restored at the Sakhile Settlement.

Community leader, Busi Mbatha says it's been difficult for them as they have not had power for a week.
"After meeting with the municipal officials, we told the community to go visit the offices and make payment arrangements so that this matter is resolved quickly."

"Because we cannot go without electricity for one more day. We have the elderly, the sick and children living at Sakhile and do not have money to buy paraffin or gas anymore."
Police arrested five suspects on charges of public violence during demonstrations on Monday.

The local municipality says residents are not paying their bills.
But locals complain they are being charged exorbitant amounts. They have now agreed on a payment plan.
