PICS: Probe into blaze at luxury residential resort in Umhlanga

An investigation is underway after a fire broke out on the top floor of residential resort, The Pearls of Umhlanga, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Fire fighters managed to extinguish the blaze in a penthouse on the 32nd floor.
eThekwini Fire Division Commander Jay Kanniapten says the area around the jacuzzi caught alight.
They also put out flames on the wooden pool deck.

He says people in the building at the time were evacuated, and no one was hurt.
"Around 2:45am this morning, we had a call for a fire on the top of The Pearls.
"With the quick action of our team, that fire was extinguished, we got it under control and there was no damage to the penthouse itself, just the area on the pool deck where the jacuzzi is.
"The cause of the fire is still under
investigation."
