PICS: Motorists to avoid Chris Hani Road amid violence
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Police are at the scene of taxi-related violence in Durban North's Umgeni Park area.

Officers say one person has been rushed to hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound this morning.
Several fires have been lit at the intersection of Chris Hani Road and Sea Cow Lake Road.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area.

Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says rival taxi associations are believed to be clashing over routes.
"At around 6.30am today - we received a complaint of shooting. On arrival, we noticed that two members of taxi associations were shooting each other. The situation is still tense and we are appealing to motorists to please use alternate routes," he said.
Zwane says a case of attempted murder and public violence will be opened.

No arrests have been made.
Yesterday afternoon there was a standoff between taxi operators were protesting between Sandile Thusi and Soldier's Way - causing a huge backlog of traffic. It's believed the tension is over taxi routes.
