PICS: Dramatic Durban rescue following trench collapse

Two construction workers have been injured after the trench they were working in collapsed on North Coast Road, in Durban.
When paramedics arrived, a man in his 40s was pinned down by a large concrete pillar and mud. While the other worker who is in his early 20s was freed before emergency workers arrived.

A team of firefighters and the Police Search and Rescue and a rescue unit from the Durban University of Technology - worked for more than two hours to free the man. Both men suffered moderate injuries and are being treated in hospital.
It's not yet known what caused the trench to collapse.
