Four injured after trench collapses in Umhlanga
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Four men have been rushed to hospital following a trench collapse in the Somerset Park area near Umhlanga, north of Durban.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha says the workers had been digging a trench at a property in Cheddar Close - when the bank gave way.
"The fire department arrived. They assisted in digging out with spades and loosening up the area. They seem to have managed quite well to get these people out," he said.

They were buried under concrete pillars - before being rescued by emergency service teams.
"The whole side of the embankment collapsed - including some concrete brick pillars, and landed on top of the men. They were buried just over waist-deep, and some sustained very serious injuries," he said.
