PHOTOS: Ballito couple lucky to be alive after vehicle skids off icy road
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A north coast couple has escaped serious injury after the vehicle they were travelling in slid off an icy road on Sani Pass near Underberg.
Their vehicle slid for about 15 metres before stopping against a rock yesterday.
The two managed to climb out of the unbalanced vehicle safely.
The Berg Protection Service's Debby Deavin says the incident could have easily been a lot worse.
"They would have lost their lives. Their vehicle just came to a stop - the one front wheel was lodged in some rocks. If the vehicle had just had a little more momentum or speed, it would have rolled down that area which is treacherous."

Deavin says the vehicle was positioned in a 45 degree angle.
"It's very, very steep - as well as considering the snow. It would have required an aircraft to remove these folks from the area," Deavin said.
