Phoenix residents dismayed as water crisis drags on
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Residents in Durban's northern areas were still battling with dry taps on Thursday morning.
As temperatures soar again over large parts of KZN, Phoenix residents say the community's dismayed by eThekwini's U-turn on its promise to have their water crisis solved by Thursday.
City Manager Musa Mbhele admitted on Wednesday that while engineers have made progress by sorting out leaks, blockages and valves on the Northern Aqueduct, they won't be able to restore communities' supplies by the self-imposed deadline.
Selvan Govender, who's with the Phoenix Civic Movement, believes it was an unrealistic deadline from the start.

"They should have timeously kept people abreast of everything that is happening. If they could not procure supplies then they put out a notice saying that they had a problem and may miss a deadline.
“Or if there was a workman strike, they can put out a notice, but to make promises knowing that there may be unforeseen circumstances, to me, that's foolish. We are disappointed that not only was the deadline missed but we were led to believe that by all accounts, the crisis will be solved."
