eThekwini admits it won’t meet water connection deadline
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini's city manager says they will not be able to meet the Thursday deadline to have water connections up and running in the city's northern parts.

Musa Mbhele says the city has been met by what he called “unforeseen challenges”.
He addressed the media ahead of a municipal council meeting at the ICC on Wednesday morning.
Last week, Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said that engineers working on the Northern Aqueduct had made progress and assured residents that water would flow from their taps again from Thursday.
Mbhele insisted their technical teams are still hard at work.

He said 54 air valves have been replaced in the city so far.
“Active leak detection and repair programme is on track to commence at the beginning of April. One-hundred-and-eight pressure reduction valves are on track to start the installation process in March.
“The revenue enhancement programme is continuing with the new meter reading contract now in place, and the meters are being read to ensure accurate building processes. The Southern Aqueduct project is on track to commence in April. The water reuse project is on track to go on tender."
He added that modification needed to be done on outstanding valves to fit the new valves which has delayed their progress.
These modifications are planned to be completed by next Wednesday.
