Police have confirmed the 29-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning at his Phoenix home shortly after the incident.

KZN Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says a case of murder has been opened and the man will appear in the Verulam Maigstrate's Court soon.

According to the Phoenix Sun, it is alleged that the crime was sparked by a domestic violence issue between the husband and his wife.

However, Zwane says the motive for the murder of the child is unknown at this stage.

This is a developing story and updates will be published once more information becomes available.

Meanwhile, three men who allegedly set fire to a woman and her teenage daughter will appear in the Harding Magistrate's Court this week on murder and attempted murder charges.

Thembi Memela's body was found on a river bank in February after she and her daughter had been kidnapped from their home in Machi Location.

Police say Memela - a bank manager - and her daughter were bundled into the boot of their car.  Memela's cards were used to buy petrol.

KZN police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala, says detectives traced the suspects to Klerksdorp in the North West after fleeing from KZN.
