The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced the latest fuel price adjustments on Monday.

Motorists will pay 10 cents less per litre for both grades of petrol in June.

This almost matches last month's drop of 9 cents per litre.

Meanwhile, LP Gas will retail for 148 cents less per kilogram.

"The rand appreciated, on average, against the US Dollar during the period under review when compared to the previous one. This led to lower contributions to the basic fuel prices of petrol," says the department’s spokesperson Robert Maake.

Some consumers will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets though.

Diesel will increase by at least 20 cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin will also cost 20 cents more per litre.

Maake says the higher oil demand has also driven up oil prices.

"The oil prices remain at high levels as the season for oil demand is approaching, and the lockdown restrictions are lifted in most European countries and the United States of America.

"The movement in international refined petroleum product prices of diesel and illuminating paraffin followed the increasing trend in crude oil prices."
