Two families were rescued after their homes became submerged when the Msunduzi River burst its banks this past weekend.

There was heavy rain in Peacevale on Saturday night, which caused the river to overflow.
Cooperative Governance spokesperson, Senzo Mzila says disaster management teams were immediately dispatched to assist residents who were affected.

Mzila says they are urging those living along the floodplain to be cautious.
"Teams are on the ground, and they are accessing and providing assistance to the families that are affected. The people who are at the biggest risk are those who are flood bank. Teams have been dispatched to provide that support and ensuring people are evacuated."
