Over 9000 suspects arrested in KZN in June

In an effort to reduce crime in the province, KZN police
have arrested over 9 400 suspects during the month of June.

According to police, 2 809 were arrested for contact crimes which included murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape and assault.
KZN SAPS spokesperson Jay Naicker says over 1 300 were apprehended for drug-related crimes.
"These arrests stem from crime combatting operations carried out across all 11 districts within the province and includes arrests made during high-density operations (Operation Shanela).

"During these operations, police officers seized 1630kgs of drugs which included cannabis, cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, mandrax and ecstasy."
KZN Community safety MEC Sipho Hlomuka commended the arrests adding that he wants to see safer communities for everyone.
"This high-density crime combating operation is yielding the desired results. Our law enforcement agencies are equal to the task." said the department's spokesperson Thando Biyela.
