Over 8 000 people nabbed during festive season - SAPS

Police say they put more than 8 000 people behind bars during festive season operations in December.

The suspects were nabbed for various crimes, including murder, sexual offences and kidnapping.
Some 9 000 explosives and 7 219 ammunitions were also seized.
SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says their Safer Festive Season Operation is in full swing.

"From 01 December to 29 December 2022, the following successes have been achieved through the nationwide Safer Festive Season Operations: 2 940 illegal undocumented persons were arrested, 2 729 suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes.
"One thousand two hundred and eighty-four suspects arrested for dealing illegally in liquor, 628 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 305 suspects were arrested and charged for murder, 527 suspects were arrested and charged for sexual related offences including rape and 31 suspects involved in kidnapping cases were arrested."
