Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Transport MEC Sipho Hlomuka says he is pleased that preliminary reports suggest a reduction in the number of fatal road crashes over the festive season.

The province is still taking stock of the impact of law enforcement operations on KwaZulu-Natal's busy routes.
Traffic authorities conducting roadside checks, stopped 88 502 vehicles.
At least 10 730 road users were charged for violating traffic rules.

Hlomuka says they will continue with plans to monitor routes until schools reopen.
"So far, we have a reduction of 10 percent, but the operations are still continuing as we are aware that a number of tourists that have visited KZN are now going back to their provinces.
"We are monitoring the N2 and N3. We will be monitoring until the end of January."
