Over 2 500 suspects nabbed for various crimes in KZN

KwaZulu-Natal law enforcement teams say they've put 93 suspects behind bars over the past two weeks for gender-based violence.

These specifically relate to attacks against women and children. 


"Thirty-six suspects were nabbed for murder, whilst 41 people were apprehended in connection with cases of attempted murder," says KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda. 


"On crimes against women and children, a total of 65 suspects were arrested for rape, six were busted for attempted rape, and 22 more people were nabbed for other sexual offences, including sexual assault."


Netshiunda says over 2 500 suspects were nabbed for various crimes across KZN between 26 January and this week.

Among them are 72 people who're suspected of being involved in a string of burglaries. 


Three-hundred-and ninety-five suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes and 140 were taken in for being in possession of knives. 


"Eighty-one firearms, including four rifles and 818 assortments of ammunitions were also removed from society, with 24 suspects put behind bars for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.


"Another eight suspects were nabbed for stock theft; six cattle, two goats and a horse were recovered in the process."
