Over 160 fires in KZN since June – WoF

Working on Fire says firefighters have had to put out 166 blazes in KwaZulu-Natal since June.

The group says August was one of the windiest months of the winter fire season.

Sixty-three fires were recorded last month, compared to July's 51 blazes.
Spokesperson Nompilo Zondi says 19 teams were dispatched to assist in various fire-prone communities, plantations and nature reserves.
"Working on Fire Kishugu Joint Venture plays a critical role in addressing climate change through suppression, mitigation, and adaptation strategies to combat the consequences of these extreme weather events.
"Some of the common causes of these fires are human negligence such as bee hunters, community members starting a fire to burn rubbish without checking the FDI, starting fire break without the adequate resources or leaving fires unattended."
