Rumours swirled that Premier Sihle Zikalala's job is on the line following his election loss this past weekend.

But newly-elected KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma made a public commitment, saying there'll be no purging after the elective conference.

The pledge was welcomed by ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday evening.

“Yes, there are differences in every organisation, differences approaching this, different perspectives. It's not new, but what those different perspectives and approaches should never do, is divide us to the point where we regard ourselves as enemies. Is to make it impossible for us to work together.”

Ramaphosa, who delivered the closing remarks in Durban, pledged to work hand-in-hand with KZN's new top five.

“To work together with our comrades who have been selected based on trust, based on cooperation and working together to advance our interest of the African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal.”

He commended the party's KZN province for their discipline throughout the conference but added there's a need to shift perspectives at these events.

"Our conferences often turn to be inwardly focused, they’re often concerned with tests of leadership and dynamics within our organisation. We need to change that, we need to make our conferences about the people of the country.”
