Frosty reception for Ramaphosa at ANC's KZN conference

'Wenzeni uZuma? (What did Zuma do?)' was the question posed by KZN ANC delegates to party president Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday evening.

Ramaphosa was greeted by crowds chanting former president Jacob Zuma's name as he arrived at Durban's Olive Convention Centre to wrap up the ANC's provincial elective conference.

He made it to his scheduled appearance at the last minute after he had informed the new chairperson he wouldn't be able to attend due to other commitments.

A new ANC leader in the province, Siboniso Duma, had some harsh words for delegates as he tried to control the crowd who booed President Ramaphosa as he stepped up to the podium to deliver his closing address.

Ramaphosa, whose apparent allies were voted out of office this weekend, was finally allowed to speak when the situation calmed down.

Meanwhile, the party moved to clear the air on the president's speech - saying there were no walkouts during his address.

" I want the president to confirm that there have been no walkouts as you are talking to us," said KZN deputy chairperson Nomagugu Simelane.

"Regions have been called to vote, so we started with Musadlala when you walked in, we went to Ethekwini and now see the low South Coast region go into a vote. Certainly, the delegates of KZN are disciplined and celebrate your presence here."
