Other provinces to experience similar wave as Gauteng: Kubayi-Ngubane

Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane says patterns have emerged showing that other provinces are going to experience the same Covid-19 trends that are unfolding in Gauteng.

Kubayi-Ngubane's delivered a progress report to the media on Friday morning on government's efforts to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and the national vaccination rollout programme. 


"Most notably in the Western Cape, when we look at last night's numbers and the North West due to increasing numbers, but what worries as well is the positivity rate. If you look at Limpopo has almost 42% of positivity rate. 


"We are also paying attention to what is happening in the Eastern Cape and as well as KwaZulu-Natal. So many provinces, we can say that almost a trend alert for us looking at the numbers."

She was joined by a panel of experts. 


She says the coronavirus positivity rate has increased in all provinces. 


"The positivity testing rate has also increased from 27 to 28.4% in the last 24 hours, this shows increasing numbers in many provinces across actually. 


"But Gauteng continues to be the epicentre of the new infections, with the number of new cases having risen to 12 806 last night, which represents 60 percent of the total number of new infections."
