In uMsunduzi, Mzimkhulu Thobela's name from the Provincial Legislature has been put forward for the Mayor's job and Manilal Inderjit his deputy.

The IFP's Nirend Singh says they will work with the new leadership, but the ANC needs to focus on repairing itself.

"We will do everything to support proper service delivery, but we have doubts that they will be able to turn the ship and clear the rot in a short space of time," said Singh.

The DA's Zwakele Mncwango says they would have preferred to to see younger candidates taking over some of the key roles.

"The same individuals who have retired are now mushrooming in eThekwini. People of eThekwini have been waiting for better services, how do we expect these people to hit the ground running," he asked.

The EFF's Vusi Khoza says they are concerned.

"With regards to Msunduzi, I have never heard of them. I don't have any information on their credentials in the struggle or management."

Meanwhile the ANC's Mdumiseni Ntuli says the party has suspended members behind mass protests in eThekwini and uMsunduzi.
