Police and Durban Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of one person and gutted more than 70 homes in Clairwood.
A section of an informal settlement along Sirdar Road went up in flames on Saturday morning.
Police say the fire is understood to have started at around 4.30am, while residents were still asleep.
The flames spread quickly, tearing through at least 75 informal dwellings and leaving many families without a roof over their heads.
