More details emerge in Westville house fire
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Durban Fire officials say a house fire in Westville yesterday may have been sparked by a cigarette.

An elderly man was killed in the blaze at his home on Serpentine Drive.
District Commander at the Pinetown Fire Station, Xolani Zikhali says the man sustained severe burn injuries.
"An outside building was involved in the fire. The fire had gone through the roof and the brigade spent about 20 minutes trying to contain and extinguish it. Upon a secondary investigation, we discovered that there was a deceased man burnt beyond recognition," Zikhali said.

Zikhali says they are still busy with their investigations into the cause of the fire. He says there was no other injuries reported.
"The cause of the fire is suspected to be cigarettes because it's believed the man was smoking and also having difficulties because he suffered from a stroke," he said.
