Oncology crisis: KZN Health exploring public-private partnerships
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN Health is still searching for full-time oncologists - as it tries to solve the province's cancer crisis. It's acknowledged the process has been extremely challenging so far.
Acting Health HOD, Musa Gumede says they're now turning to public-private partnerships. And with the private tender in place, they will continue trying to recruit internally.
""There are not a lot of oncologists waiting to be employed. That process of trying to get someone has not worked in SA. We then looked at people that were in training. At the end of last year, there were seven people who passed across the country.
"We are continuing to recruit internally. The adverts go out and we are still recruiting internally. Secondly, we have decided to get engaged in public-private partnerships," he says.
