Officials in hot water after baby mix-up at Durban hospital
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Action has been taken against officials at a Durban hospital after a new young mom was sent home with the wrong baby a month ago.
The two mothers found out about the mix-up a week later after nurses at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital realised there might be an issue.
KZN Department of Health says one of the babies that were born had died.

Spokesperson Mdu Ncalane says DNA tests were done.
"The results of the first DNA tests were communicated with both mothers and their families. On request by the mother of the deceased baby, we have conducted a second DNA test, the results of which are due on the 21st June 2022."
"Hospital management are in regular contact with the affected families and on hand to duly address any points of clarity.
"We can also point out that the hospital has offered counselling to both parties, but this was delayed due to their need to focus on their studies as they were busy with academic examinations."
