Official from KZN Premier's office granted bail for tender corruption
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Hawks say four more people, arrested on allegations of fraud and corruption related to procurement in the Office of the Premier have been granted bail in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court.
It's related to a R20 million catering tender dating back to 2013.
Four other officials from Sihle Zikalala's office were arrested in July.
Supply Chain Manager in the Premier's Office, Nonhlanhla Hlongwa has been granted R5 000 bail.
The bail of three service providers, Ashley Rose, Ntombimpela Majozi and Sybil Motaung' has been set at R10 000 and R20 000.
The Hawks say the four handed themselves over on Friday morning and were processed and kept in holding cells.
They joined Hlongwa’s personal assistant, Nomusa Zwake, Chief Financial Officer, Ziphathe Cibane, senior administration officer, Sithembiso Msomi, and administration clerk, Njabulo Makhathini in court today.
It's understood that the officials allegedly manipulated procurement processes so that contracts were awarded to certain providers.
All nine of them will be back in court at the end of April.
*It was previously erroneously reported that Nomusa Zwake was Premier Sihle Zikalala's P. A. This has been corrected.
