Officer killed in Mariannhill business robbery

A police reservist has been shot and killed while responding to a business robbery in Mariannhill.

The man believed to be in his 40's died at the scene.
According to police, the reservist went to deal with a complaint in the Tafelkop area where armed robbers had stormed a business premises.
The SAPS says the group opened fire on the reservist, who suffered injuries to his neck.

Police say the suspects took airtime and money before fleeing with the man's firearm and two service pistols.
Charges of murder and robbery have been opened.
