An Umbilo man has been shot and killed while trying to chase down robbers who had ransacked his home in the Durban suburb.

According to police, six gunmen entered the house on River Drive and stole several items before fleeing.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the 50-year-old father and his son decided to give chase to the gang.
"While they were chasing the suspects, it is alleged that the suspect opened fire - fatally wounding the father. The son was wounded and taken to hospital. That is why we have opened a case of murder, attempted murder as well as house robbery. There are no arrests made at this stage," he said.
Zwane says police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of the suspects to contact their local police station.
