Off-duty cop shot dead in Avoca home invasion

A police officer has been gunned down in Avoca, north of Durban.

The off-duty cop suffered multiple gunshot wounds, in what is believed to have been a home invasion in the early hours of Friday morning.
Medi Response's Kimberly Liell-Cock says he was hit in the chest and abdomen.

"The officer had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene.
"Reports from the scene indicate that multiple armed assailants had entered the Avoca residence before midnight, and several gunshots were fired shortly thereafter. It is unclear if the victim was the intended target, or if this was a robbery gone wrong.
“The scene was handed over to SAPS for further investigation."
