Mdletshe says the government should intervene, as NFP leaders are being targeted in the area.
"It is becoming clear that there is a well-orchestrated plan to eliminate and silence all NPA councillors in the area of Nongoma.
“Our councillor in the same area Nongoma councillor Zungu was attacked twice in a space of two weeks. We are therefore saying that the time has come for government to prioritise the safety and security of our councillors."
Police say they're investigating two counts of attempted murder.
KZN's Community Safety MEC Sipho Hlomuka has lauded the community for helping the police catch the suspect.
