The trade union also wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to axe the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan.

This follows the resignation of Eskom's chairperson Jabu Mabuza on Friday on the same day the president announced he was looking to make changes to the power utility.

Mabuza cited failure to prevent load shedding until January 13th as promised last year for his departure.

NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says Mabuza should not take the fall on his own.

"They must all go. Jabu Mabuza isn't the only one - he didn't make decisions on his own. The entire board is responsible for the crisis we find ourselves in, and therefore they must be fired.

"Secondly,  Mr Pravin Gordon has proven that he lacks the capability and the skills to run our SOE's probably. He clearly has no understanding of how to run State-owned entities. Look at the state of Eskom, it's on the verge of collapse. SAA is at the point of business rescue, which is something that is unprecedented, it's never happened before," she said.
