Numsa: Mango has no intention to go into business rescue
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) says it does not believe Mango Airlines has any intention of subjecting itself to a business rescue process despite the airline's announcement it will do so.
The South African Airways (SAA) subsidiary has been struggling to pay its close to 740 workers and creditors for months.
The union has also directed criticism at the Public Enterprise Department, saying there's been no sign of the R820 million cash injection that was promised.

Numsa’s Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says Mango's business rescue announcement was only prompted by the papers the union's lawyers filed in court.
"In a move to save the company, our members' precious livelihoods and in an attempt to salvage what we can, we have approached the courts to place Mango Airlines into business rescue.
"We have served papers on all stakeholders and have filed an urgent application at the South Gauteng High Court.
"We have noted the announcement made by SAA that it intends to do the same however they are merely saying that. They have taken no decisive action to place the airline under business rescue."
