The low-cost carrier says this is due to outstanding payments owed to ATNS.

"This us due to us owing ATNS which is our air traffic navigation solution company. So until further notice we will be suspending our operations," spokesperson for the SAA subsidiary Benediction Zubane says.

"I do urge our customers to go through our website, just to confirm our status. I do urge our customers to also check their SMSs and emails because we'll be communicating just to make sure our customers are informed accordingly."

Zubane says senior management and shareholders, who're currently locked in a meeting, are trying to thrash out a plan.

"Discussions are still at a very sensitive stage and when we have an update, we will inform the public accordingly.”
