The agreement brings an end to the wage impasse which led to wildcat strikes and protests at various Eskom plants -plunging the country into stage 6 load shedding.

"We can confirm that our members have accepted the 7% offer and the increase on R400 housing allowance and the reinstatement of conditions of services that Eskom took last year,” said NUM general-secretary William Mabapa told the media outside the offices of the Central Bargaining Forum.

“The offer is reasonable compared to the wage increases we got this year in other sectors."

Meanwhile, Solidarity secretary Helgard Cronjé said their members have also accepted the wage offer.

"Our last demand was less than the current offer on the table, so we are in a position to accept the offer later on Tuesday until we sign the agreement with Eskom."
