Eskom assures eThekwini residents of 'safe, sustainable' load shedding
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Eskom says it's confident that eThekwini will introduce power cuts in a safe and sustainable manner when necessary.
The municipality and power producer released a joint statement to say that load shedding will resume in Durban in August after the city reworks its schedule.
It was put on hold after eThekwini's electrical infrastructure was severely damaged in the April floods.
The utility reintroduced back-to-back load shedding citing generation capacity challenges and the workers' strike.
Stage 4 of the power cuts is underway.

Gugulethu Dumakude, who's with Eskom in KZN, says they understand that the municipality's electrical network and water infrastructure are extremely vulnerable.
"Studies indicate that in the aftermath of the disaster, the municipality lost 50% of electrical load on their electrical infrastructure. To date, a significant portion of this load has not been restored and will continue to be off the grid until extensive repairs are carried out.
"After discussions will however continue to work closely with the municipality to minimise the risk to the municipality infrastructure as well as to the grid."
