NTA warns fuel price hikes could be passed on to passengers

It says the new hikes that kicked in at midnight could spell disaster for a sector ferrying millions of people every day.

An increase in the international oil price and a weaker rand saw the cost for both grades of petrol jump by R1.71 per litre.
Diesel shot up by R2.76 and R2.84 per litre.
The NTA says without government intervention, the costs will be passed onto hard-pressed consumers, who already spend a disproportionate amount of their salaries on transport.
