Spike in fuel price 'doesn't come at great time'

Many motorists will be
making their way to garages before midnight to try to soften the blow of this
month's fuel price shocks.

A litre of petrol is going to cost an additional R1.71.
Diesel price increases will soar to R2.76 and R2.84 per litre.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy says crude oil price rises were the main culprit.

The Automobile Association's Layton Beard has warned that consumers will be hardest hit.
"They going to push fuel back up to levels seen a couple of months ago and that at the time people were struggling and I think people are struggling more now and these prices are not going to help consumers across the board.
"Especially the diesel hikes, it's going to impact on input costs in so many sectors and consumers will feel it at the tills. It's not great news, it doesn't come at a great time."
