Not enough women in top education posts: Sadtu

There are not enough women in key sectors in the education sector.

That is the view of teachers' union Sadtu in KwaZulu-Natal.

The number of women occupying key positions in the sector was among the topics discussed at a two-day Women in Leadership Conference at eThekwini's TVET College yesterday.

Sadtu's provincial secretary, Nomarashiya Caluza says it appears as if women are being sidelined within the sector.

She believes there is a lack of confidence in women involved education.

Speaking to Newswatch as South Africans mark Women's Month and National Women's Day tomorrow, Caluza says the sentiment needs to change, as women have the ability to occupy key positions and lead with excellence.

Some 500 Sadtu delegates from around the country attended the conference.

Caluza says it is scary to think that women are not being given opportunities to develop in their careers 25 years into the country's democracy.
