Northern KZN family living in fear following violent home invasion

A grandfather from Ekombe near Nkandla in northern KwaZulu-Natal says his family is living in fear after a deadly home invasion.

Mdelene Mgube says two criminals, armed with an axe, attacked them while they were sleeping on Sunday night.

His 66-year-old wife Smangele was killed.

He and his 13-year-old grandson survived but with serious injuries.   

Mgube says to their horror, the men then set their home alight after assaulting them.  

He has called on the police to do everything they can to find his wife's killers.

"I do not know why these people attacked my home. As days pass, I'm coming to terms that my wife Smangele is no longer here, but my neighbours are supporting us," he said.

"Every time I think about her and where we came from, I get emotional when I think about how her life was taken."

Police confirmed the attack, saying a case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.
