The search for a local man who disappeared beneath the waters off of North Beach a few days ago, has ended in tragedy.
The 22-year-old was swimming with friends in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when he got into difficulty in the water and drowned.
Officers from the Durban Search and Rescue Unit pulled his body from the shore break, on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says an inquest docket's been opened.
"A four-day search for the body of the missing male, aged 22, who drowned at North beach has been recovered from the shore break by the Search and Rescue Team members," she says.
