Non-striking Umhlathuze workers attacked
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Umhlathuze Municipality says it's deployed additional security to protect employees and property, as a workers’ strike enters its third week.

Workers affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) are protesting issues such as unpaid overtime and unfair labour practices.
The city says waste collectors in Richards Bay were attacked on Wednesday, allegedly by members of the striking group.
It's understood that one worker was hospitalised.
Samwu's Zandile Gumede says the union will comment on the incident once police provide case numbers.

She says the strike will continue until their demands are met.
" We have been trying to get the employer's attention and asking him to resume the negotiation they had already started. However, it has fallen into deaf ears.
"They had sent us back to court in an attempt to try and stop the strike; however, they have failed to do this because even though the judgment has not come out, the strike was not interdicted.
"So we are still waiting for the judgment. So now they're using that as an excuse not to resume the negotiation."
