No relief for consumers as fuel prices continue to soar

"I'm looking at Brent at the moment - 75,25. It's slightly off where it was yesterday but it's still in a high territory - relative to where it was last year. The rand at R12.72 is also above where we were in December, January and February," Sasfin Security's David Shapiro said.

Shapiro has been sharing his views on the latest fuel price adjustments.

Petrol went up by 82 cents a litre at midnight, while diesel users are now coughing up between 85 and 87 cents a litre more.

Shapiro says ordinary South Africans will feel the pinch.

"Everything we do is transported. Labour and fuel are the main ingredients. Growing a potato doesn't cost much - but it's taking it out the ground and putting it on a truck and taking it to a market, that's where the costs are," he said.
