No meningitis outbreak in greater Durban area: KZN Health
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health says there is no outbreak of meningitis in Durban and surrounding areas.

That's the word from officials, despite several cases being reported in the region.
The department has been commenting after a five-month-old baby from Pietermaritzburg died after allegedly being denied help because there were no beds available at the Greys and Northdale hospitals.
Little Brody Bezuidenhout had been rushed to the hospitals with an extremely high temperature just over a week ago.
His mother, Linda says the two hospitals should have checked and known the signs because of recorded cases.
"The hospital was supposed to look at that first - because there was something going around. I just feel if they checked for that in the first place - like Greys [Hospital] said he should be placed on a drip, maybe my baby would still be alive."

In a statement released by the department, officials say they're aware of four unrelated cases of viral meningitis. It said two cases were from eThekwini and two from the Amajuba District.
