‘No improvement’ to Durban’s business confidence levels

A macroeconomics researcher says that according to the latest index, business confidence levels in Durban haven't improved much from last year.

The Business Confidence Index [BCI] went up by 0.3 index points - to 38.42 in the first quarter of 2024.
The UKZN’s Research Associate in the Macroeconomics Research Unit, Ntokozo Nzimande, says the increase indicates a slight improvement in the business community's sentiment on the current economic climate and eThekwini's service delivery efforts.

"There are some improvements. If you remember in the last quarter we reported that there were issues of service delivery regarding the water supply. We have been hearing that they have been working very hard to work on such issues."
