No funds to repair Coedmore Bridge - councillor
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
eThekwini Municipality has no funds to fix the flood-damaged Coedmore Bridge in Durban.

That's according to Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter.
He says it could cost an estimated cost of R26 million to rebuild the structure.
"At the moment, I have been liaising with a senior engineer from eThekwini Municipality who is involved with the new design of a new bridge and then ultimately will be involved with the construction.
"The unfortunate part at this stage is that there are no funds available."
The bridge, said to be over 100 years old, was built by the Stainbank family.

It was upgraded just last year only to be destroyed by last month's rains.
Hegter says it's frustrating for residents to have to use alternate routes which are already choked up with traffic.
"That bridge doesn't only service the Yellowood Park, Woodhaven area of the ward. It's also been a convenient route from the Sea View area, people taking a shortcut through Clairwood.
"So it is a very convenient route and it has caused a huge amount of frustration and disruption."
Hegter has urged residents eager to fix the bridge themselves to steer clear as the remaining infrastructure is unstable.
