No decision on national taxi shutdown, says Santaco
The leadership of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) is set to meet to discuss the impact of recent increases in the price of fuel.
Two of the country's biggest taxi associations, the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) and Santaco are lobbying trade union federation Cosatu and other civic groups to join a national shutdown over the spiraling fuel price.
Santaco's Bafana Magagula says their NEC will meet with government after they have sat down and discussed their proposals to limit the impact on the sector.
"We have not yet decided on any shutdown. The NEC of Santaco has not yet sat to decide on whether there is going to be a shutdown or not."

"That is a possibility, in future in case nothing happens, but it is not something that has been already discussed and planned. So there no shutdown as yet, not at all."
Meanwhile, Cosatu's Sizwe Pamla says they have not received any communication from Santaco on a possible shutdown.
"We haven't received any formal communication from Santaco."
"The general secretary Mr. Magagula has pointed out that they have not yet taken a decision, that their NEC is first going to meet and discuss this issue. Once they have resolved the issue, they will announce a date," says Pamla.
