Nine-month baby girl killed in Umkomaas shack fire

A fire has ripped through a home in Umkomaas, killing a 9-month-old baby girl.

The blaze broke out at the informal dwelling in Feligisee last night.

KZN EMS spokesperson Robert Mackenzie says the infant's body was tragically found after the flames had been extinguished.
"A girl aged about nine months old had sadly succumbed to her injuries due to the fire. The exact cause of the fire is not known at this stage, and it s being investigated by authorities."
No other injuries have been reported.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says it's since been established that the baby's mother wasn't home at the time.
A case of child neglect has been opened against the mother.
