Newcastle official facing R3.1m fraud charges gets bail

A Newcastle municipal worker accused of fraud has been granted R50 000 bail.
Dedre van Rooyen allegedly manipulated the payroll system to defraud the city of millions.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says Van Rooyen appeared at the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes court on Thursday.

"The accused made her first appearance on charges of fraud amounting to approximately R3.1 million. She was released on bail and the matter was postponed to 1 December for further investigations."
Van Rooyen's bail conditions include her handing in her passport and not leaving KZN without permission from the investigating officer.
