The eTafuleni Satellite Police Station has opened its doors in the township, north of Durban.

It'll assist Inanda SAPS by intensifying the fight against crime in the area, which according to the latest crime stats, registered the highest number of rape and murder cases in the country.

eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says the establishment of the satellite station forms part of the City's crime prevention strategies.

"All the areas up to Ntuzuma and other areas, this police station will be servicing them, bringing government services closer to them, especially when people have cases to report. This is the place to do that."

Police Minister Bheki Cele says law enforcement teams will do everything in their power to ensure that they rid the township of Inanda of criminal activities.

"Although they can’t do everything here they will have access to a police station because to they don’t have detaining cells here, so they will be working with other stations sharing resources."
